ABOUT ME:

Many of the clients coming in my door are adult survivors of childhood trauma. I am able to hold them, to reframe their current difficulties in life as evolutionarily determined adaptations to their childhood experiences. In other words, they have done an excellent job in learning how to adapt to the environment in which they grew up in, and are now running into difficulties because the world they now live in is different from the one in which they grew up. Thus necessitating a reorientation of the psychoneurobiological self to this new environment -- a skilled therapist can help the client and client's new family system to navigate that transition, lose much of the reactivity associated with the earlier family environment, and find ways of feeling safe and connected with loved ones.
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Registered Intern, and have been seeing clients since September 2004. In Mill Valley my supervisor is Deborah Morris, LCSW #6189. In Sant
STYLE
IN THE THERAPY SESSION: I work with clients holistically, using a somatic (body-oriented) and transpersonal (spiritual) approach, that may involve touch (with the client's permission, of course).
I work from a client-centered approach endorsing the premise that the client is the expert on him/herself, and that the client, even in adversity, is trying to move toward a state of well-being.
I work experientially, assisting the client in making insights through experiencing new ways of being.
I see myself more as mid-wife, facilitating a client in this effort by helping them move through their stuck places.
I work relationally with the client valuing that therapeutic outcome is highly correlated with the client-therapist relationship.
I hold a family systems perspective seeing that a client's ability to maintain change is affected by their external landscape, as well as their internal space, meaning that individual work frequently involves couples work and vice-versa.
