  ABOUT ME:
Leslie Whitten has extensive experience in helping families reduce their stress and enjoy more satisfying relationships with their children. Ms. Whitten is a licensed Marriage Family Therapist (MFC41380) who has been practicing Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) since 2000. Trained in PCIT at UC Davis Children's Hospital- CAARE Center, Ms. Whitten specializes in coaching caregivers in the use of successful behavior management techniques with challenging children.
As a therapist and trainer for PCIT, Ms. Whitten additionally provides clinical consultation, instruction and training to mental health professionals as well as to community and state-wide agencies regarding the implementation of PCIT.

STYLE IN THE THERAPY SESSION: I specialize in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to address challenging behaviors in children between the ages of 2-7. Upon completion of PCIT, caregivers report high levels of satisfaction, decreased stress levels and positive changes in their children's behaviors at home, school and childcare settings.
What makes PCIT different from other treatment programs is the service delivery. The parent wears an electronic listening device while the therapist provides immediate feedback and instructions from behind a one-way mirror. This setting allows therapists to teach parents how to appropriately address their children's problem behaviors as they occur in the moment.
PCIT has been proven to be highly effective in helping children with serious behavior problems such as aggression, defiance, temper tantrums and oppositional behaviors. PCIT is an evidence-based treatment program that uses training, modeling and live-coaching while caregivers interact with their children.
