IN THE THERAPY SESSION:Therapy is a collaborative process. It’s by talking about what feels important to you that we work to change what’s troubling you most. My goal is to help you gain greater awareness of the hidden beliefs and behaviors that lead you to repeat the same unwanted patterns you find yourself in again and again (patterns such as bad relationships, destructive eating habits, etc.). Doing so invariably involves building on your current strengths and insights. I have found, however, that insight alone is frequently not sufficient for lasting behavior change. Therefore, I also emphasize building new skills to try out in relationships and in life. And although we’ll always strive to understand what’s causing your more distressing feelings and experiences, we’ll also work, whenever possible, to provide you some more immediate relief from whatever pain you’re struggling with at the moment.
