Product Reviews:
  More Mosby garbage
Mosby published books never fail to disappoint. This book is unorganized, inaccurate, and poorly worded just like a typical Mosby book. There is no point in updating with new editions, this book is hopeless and the world would be a better place if it was taken off the market. In fact, I will celebrate the day Mosby publishing company goes out of business. I have been tortured with their heinous nursing books for far too long. I am an online student and have read fantastic textbooks, this is NOT one of them. It is shameful to educate professional nurses with such unprofessional textbooks.
  Utter disappointment!
I'm a practicing RN for the last 13 years. This book is req'd in my APRN patho class. I must say that all 40+ students hate this book. We have found MULTIPLE mistakes. Prime example: on pg. 363 the book is describing a scissor gait. It states, "The legs are abducted so they touch each other." This is just one of many outright mistakes the book makes. Also, the tests and quizzes provided to instructors have many blatant errors in the answer key (ie-the "correct" answer in the answer key is not necessarily the correct answer according to the text). Not to mention that the book often times is not in keeping with accepted and standardized medical and nursing practice. The book utilizes multiple anacronyms for common medical terms that I have NEVER seen used in actual practice. It will give the definition to these anacronyms once in passing and then only use the anacronym from that point on. You will not find the anacronyms in the glossary anywhere, so the reader is left searching back endlessly for the one passage where it describes the abbreviation. It also substitutes common medical terms for seemingly made-up terms, which I have also never heard used nor have I been unable to locate in any medical dictionary (Taber's, Mosby, you pick). The index and the glossary are utterly useless as they barely include any medical terms and reference pages for topics. The book jumps from one topic to the next without completely explaining each one and then it will skip back. It frequently duplicates information so readers get a serious case of deja vu. I'm also scratching my head wondering how anyone thinks the figures and diagrams are useful. The point of a diagram is that it should quickly and clearly illustrate what the corresponding passages explain. These do nothing of the sort. The illustrations require almost as much explanation as the text. The included CD-Rom and online modules (if you instructor gives access) are just as worthless. The online animations are so basic, I've seen more detailed descriptions on WebMD. Bottom line, this text seems to have been written for an introductory pathophys. class that is directed at non-health professionals, not anyone who is actually planning on practicing nursing, medicine, or allied health. HORRIBLE waste of my time and money. I am now half way through the semester and am purchasing a completely different text and will be shelving this one to await textbook buy-back!!
  Basic phatophysiology knowledge
The book is extremely useful for first year medicine, dentistry or nursery students. Specially the first 4 chapters. It might require a better organization , the way the topics were posted but the objectives are covered at the end. besides, the questionnaries are relevant to the topics.
Review from an instructors point of view
I have now used this text for part of 1 semester and must say it is the most frustrating text I have ever used. It looks great when you skim through it but not when you really "dig in".The book has numerous errors (hopefully some of these have been corrected in the new edition). I am tired of telling students that the arrow in figure X should go the other way, or that hypoaldosteronism should read hyperaldosteronism---etc. Even more frustrating than the mistakes is the lack of adequate explanation of the numerous complex figures. Figures are great but they have to be explained and woven into the text or explained in the figure legend. For example (one of many possible examples) Fig. 20 -6 shows the "differentiation pathways of blood forming cells and reported sites of blockage--". This is a very complex figure. It is referred to in the text once, just in passing. No explanation of what is being shown, what the significance of "blockage" is, --etc. A figure such as this with no effort to explain/utilize it in the text is a waste of space and only confuses both students and instructors.

I got an A in physiology, so its not just me. This book is poorly written. My pharmacology book explains pathophysiology better than this book. If you find out your teacher is using this book, beg them to use a different one.
