Product Description
This comprehensive book, loaded with case studies, offers a solid foundation for assessment of human behavior in macro settings. Kirst-Ashman offers the reader practical and concrete ways of thinking about how macro systems (or task groups, communities and organizations) affect human behavior, and how these influences have implications for macro social work practice. The theme of empowerment, or building on the strengths of communities, organizations, and groups to promote change, lies at the heart of the profession's goals and central philosophies.

understanding different groups ( southlandplace )
Here is an introductory sociological analysis of different types of human groupings. Offering an understanding of how a member of the group might view outsiders. Specific clusters include the so-called LGBT. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender. Groups demarcated by racial, ethnic or cultural backgrounds are also studied. The idea is to give the reader (who is suggested to be a social worker) some empathy and competence in dealing with these groups. Essentially, it is to dispell ignorance.

The text also goes beyond this. Helping the reader affect a person's behaviour within a group, using current learning theory as the framework.

There is also an interesting aside, in delving with treatment groups. These help people with personal problems. Most often, addictions of various types. Possibly, the intent of these groups might be similar to that of a social worker. Indeed, such treatment groups might employ social workers to facilitate their operations.
