I've been studying this book over a year now, re-reading and can't recommend it enough. Checkout Joseph Goldstien's lectures on the Satipatthana in which he also highly commends Analayo's book.

 a great one for practitioners ( lalitaraja )
perhaps not the best place to start a meditation practice from, but a really excellent reference if you want to engage in Sattipatthana practice. I also took this on a recent solitary retreat and found it excellent, there is a great attention to detail and many viewpoints are considered for each point of discussion. The definition of key terms - such as satipatthana as 'attending with mindfulness' - I found refreshing. If you are serious about developing mindfulness and enjoy detail (and footnotes!) this is for you.

Great, Great book.
My book club spent more than a year going through this book, chapter by chapter. Yes, it is that dense and delightful. The footnotes alone are worth the time. This book is rich with insights layered over insights.

Not for beginners
I recommend this book for people with previous exposure to the suttas, and the Sattipatthana, who would like an in depth, scholarly read complete with extensive footnotes. I am part of a Buddhist study group and we are currently reading a chapter a month, highlighting passages, taking notes and then discussing each . As a meditator with ten years experience I have found it to be valuable and relevant to my practice as well as to my understanding of this important sutta.
