 Hard to understand
I used this book in my college classes and it is very disjointed and disorganized. My professor often apologized for it and found himself re-explaining things that the book failed to adequately describe. Still, though, it has some good things about it, such as the reading passages and DVDs, especially if you have a good teacher who is smarter than the text he or she is using.

 serious and complete ( mankalantar )
The book is very serious in the sens that it teaches you the grammer, make you see the arabic reach system of vocabulary and goes from the very begging to an advaced level. If you intend to learn arabic to be able to read newspaper, which was my case, this book is one of the best. If you want just to learn severla words and phrases to impress supperficially some arabic speeker, forget about this book. The price is very reasonable for the value of the book(s). The answer key books are important. I just wish there was also such an anwer book for volume 3.

 Arabic grammar text used in Universities ( ahobright )
This text is chosen by several Universities for teaching Arabic grammar.
It does use the vocabulary of the Media and Modern Standard Arabic. The
DVD's are useful as drill and practice replacing the Lab atmosphere and
are quite practical. Nonetheless, I find the organzation a bit disorganized and disjointed and the explanations too short and incomplete.
I am using it but find it awkward and a bit stereotyped in how it presents
its examples.

 The best book for anyone who wants to learn arabic
I purchased series of this book and i can say that it is very very nice book. it support learner with DVD and answer ky book. DVDs are prepared and organized very carefully and have rich content.
I highly recommned this book to learners of arabic language.

Al-kitaab al-Thaanii ( miskatonic92 )
While the al-Kitaab series is not without its flaws--among which must be counted an overemphasis, in this reader's opinion, on the Egyptian dialect of Arabic--it remains the best of the several offerings available. And this second volume is notable for correcting what was perhaps the most lamentable weakness of the first volume; namely, a lack of attention to the acquisition of vocabulary, which must necessarily underwrite advanced language learning (particularly in the context of Arabic, whose grammar is not especially difficult). Still and all, an attractive and eminently useful course, made the more so by the inclusion of well-designed DVDs to aid in oral comprehension. Recommended, with only very minimal reservations.
