A comforting Wisdom
Alcoholism has hurt my life in tremendous ways. I have struggled with understanding or wanting to work the twelve steps for over 10 years and have experienced several relapses. I had been attending AA meetings but something was still not right. Something was preventing me from "getting it". I could not help myself any longer and was tormented by the cravings of drinking so I contacted a counselor that specializes in the recovery from alcohol and chemical dependency. She recommended this book and after reading it I discovered the answers to MY addiction. It opened up my eyes to a new found sobriety; an emotional one that I wish I would have discovered years ago. This book taught me that life is not controlled by others nor do I control others' lives. It also took the "disease" and placed it where it belongs...a medical condition, an allergy. A sense of relief came over me. It has been an important stepping stone in my recovery. I can live free of alcohol and have discovered so many great things about who I am and how wonderful life really is.
I will reread this book over and over as I believe that Dr. Paul O. has found the deep rooted answer to many alcoholics progressive disease. A must read for anyone with a desire to recover from painful addictions.

A Must Read ( suewolfrom )
Dr. Paul incorporates his special humor and wisdom in his writings. He was a wonderful mentor to those who personally knew and loved him. The Book of Alcoholics Anonymous tells us that "Alcohol is but a symptom of our problems." In this book, Dr. Paul shares his thoughts of how to live COMFORTABLY sober - not always an easy or intuitive skill for recovering alcoholics. I highly recommend this excellent little book.

A lot of information in a few pages
I have not yet completed reading this book but find I can only absorb a small amount at one time and some of the concepts are way over my head. This would probably be a better read for someone who has been or is currently a member of AA.

Great Book!
This is an excellent book. It is full of highlights and dog-eared pages for me to go back to.

Comprehensive
This book was the next logical step in the pursuit of long term recovery and the work necessary for the individuals seeking a deeper understanding of alcoholism and it's relation to daily living once sobriety is underway. Dr Paul O. sights many additioinal resources that the reader may find helpful and enlightening for their own personal journey. Many of us will realize in a very short period of time that there IS more to quitting drinking than just the physical aspects of being sober or not taking that next drink. You will find that here.
