Not really confessions, but more beauty tips ( jaspur5 )
I love Allure magazine and finally decided to pick this up. Right off the bat I knew it was a lot of material taken right from the magazine, art and tips. I would prefer more original material, and maybe some more tutorials, like they have in Allure now, but overall it's a nice book with lovely art and some sensible advice. I've been getting Allure for years but I haven't saved the issues, so this is almost a nice little souvenir of magazines past. I think this book was put together for the magazine's 15th anniversary in 2006, and it's a nice little package. Ideally I would have preferred a bigger book for the price, with more old covers etc., since styles have changed a lot over those years. (I still have the first issue of Allure, and the magazine has stayed true to its core, but there are differences in styles and trends that would have been fun to enjoy as a flashback). I also wouldn't have minded a focus on a few products that have stood the test of time (Chanel No. 5 or Maybelline Great Lash mascara) or universally flattering colors (Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Black Honey). I admit I haven't looked at everything in great detail yet, so maybe classics get mentioned and I just haven't noticed them yet. But it's a nice book for Allure fans and those in search of a few tips.
Silghtly extended Allure content - emphasis on slightly... ( m13v )
I purchased this book even after I had read the reviews here so I knew what I was getting into... As an Allure fan I couldn't help myself - I love Linda Wells' editorials and I needed to read every word in the book. When I was finished I felt that I really only got an extended Allure magazine with a sprinkle of new content. That isn't all bad - if you love Allure as much as I do, it's still a pretty nice read. Ultimately I'd advise just flipping through it at the bookstore and getting the monthly issues for all the new stuff and freebies.
Lots Of Useful Tips and Information Fun Read Beauty Book ( dg2407 )
I personally like Beauty books very much i own lots of them. And i subscribe to Allure magazine.I did enjoy Allure Confessions Of A Beauty Editor. If you have ever read Allure you may see some information that has already been printed in the magazine ,in this book. But that does not mean its not good it just means that a small piece that was already in the magazine is in the Allure book. I dont clip out every section of a magazine that i find useful and store it somewhere. So having it in a book i think is great! There is a chapter for everything in this book from skincare, skin problems, face, eyes, lips, nails, haircut and color, hair care and style, salons and spas and body. Its a fun read and full of tips and information. There are some tips in here that you will read and think ,huh, that makes perfect sense why didnt i think of that lol In my oppinion its a fun book to read with lots of useful tips.Good book for teens and adults!
  so wonderful
This book covers everything from colored lips to spa trips and has lots of gorgeous pictures so as not as to bore or confuse you. I also liked the personality of the text. The author made me laugh. This book can be read cover to cover like a novel or it can serve as a handy lifeline. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more about the art of beauty.
Good tips, but not enough depth in each category
I'm sure Linda Wells knows a lot about beauty, but this book tries to cover way too many topics and ends up not being helpful enough in each. For example, in 'eyes', she says there is a complimentry brown shade for everyone...ok...what other colors?? There is a complimentary color for each eye color, but brown eyes could wear any color that's not exactly the same as the eye color...No Pictures, No color charts, not enough info. What about hair color or skin color?? No buying guide I'm not sure whom this book is aimed at. The beginner won't have enough info, the semi-informed won't get a lot of new stuff...
