Product Description
Unlike the subject of a traditional portrait, who typically faces us directly and reveals her story as she pleases, the reading woman remains an enigma. This calendar s twelve images by sixteenth- to twentieth-century European artists invite you to imagine the details of the reading woman s experience. Each is accompanied by a quote or literary excerpt on the subject of books and reading. Artists represented are Maria Konstantinova Bashkirtseva, Ambrosius Benson, Georges Croegaert, Carl Vilhelm Holsøe, Robert Hope, Edward Killingworth Johnson, August Macke, Thomas Pole (attributed), Valentine Cameron Prinsep, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and Marianne Stokes.
Size: 12 x 13 in.; opens to 12 x 26 in.

Yearly purchase ( booksremembered )
I have bought this calendar each year, for many years, for my daughter who is a college professor and a member of the English department. The quality of the selections has always been excellent and it is the calendar that she uses in her office.

It gets better every year
I really like this product. This is the 2nd year that I have bought this and the pictures are not the same. I did not realize that there were so many pictures of woman reading in art. It is a metal spiral bound so it will lay flat and there is a month overview plus day to day pages.

Devoted Readers ( mkratzert )
Words and image combine in this calendar to create an homage to reading and women who read. The words are quotations from know authors such as Gertrude Stein ("Writing and reading is to me synonymous with existing"), and the images are mostly pictures of oils by equally known painters such as Mary Cassatt ("Mrs. Duffee Seated on a Striped Sofa Reading")--2007 calendar.
The calendar measures 12" wide by 13" length (26" open). Dates are in roomy 1 1/2" squares, and all special days are noted. I have used this calendar for three years straight now. My husband gave me my first "The Reading Women," and I liked it so well that I could not part with it. Lucky for me, I did not have to because it has not ceased publication.

Classic Calendar
A great gift for the women in your life who love to read.
It has many works by lesser known artists of the 19th/20th
centuries and the prints may be framed for continued enjoyment.

This is NOT a wall calendar...
I wish the product description would have mentioned this product's format. It is an "engagement calendar" --- a spiral bound book-type calendar. The artwork is very nice, but I was shopping for a wall calendar.
