Product Description
Book 1 of Legends of the Guardian King which follows the life of Abramm Kalladorne in his turbulent search for truth and self--a search that will transform him from a sickly, head-in-the-clouds youth to a legendary hero of strength and courage. Set in a world of swords and cloaks, of glittering palaces and mystical temples, of galley ships and ancient, mist-bound cities, his journey illustrates how God pursues and how He uses suffering to mold His children into something greater than was ever thought possible. Written by Karen Hancock, the acclaimed author of Arena.

My new favorite series.
I picked up this book several times in Borders and thought it looked interesting, but it wasn't until much later that I actually bought a copy. Once I started reading it, I realized how much I had been missing out! From the first page I was drawn in by these fascinating and vivid characters, and before long I was completely engrossed in this world that Hancock created.
I have now read the entire series, and though I love all four books, this first book remains my favorite for the following reasons: it is the one that introduces us to the characters and their world; it possesses a great deal of suspense regarding the characters' spiritual beliefs -for much of the book we are left wondering which side is good and which is evil; I loved watching the main character Abramm grow from the weakling that he is in the beginning to the hero that he becomes in the gladiator ring.
I found these books to be rewarding on multiple levels. There is an engrossing story with great characters and exciting action/suspense, so it should appeal to fans of secular fantasy, but there is also the spiritual element. The characters in these books face issues that Christians face in our world every day, and reading about their struggles helped me to focus on and contemplate those issues in my own life.
I would recommend the Legends of the Guardian-King series to anyone, whether a secular or Christian reader. I am constantly reading something, but I was greatly impressed by these books. They have quickly become my favorite series.

a great read
I opened this book a little skeptical of what I would find, but I ended up falling in love with the characters -- Abramm and Trap and even little Philip. If you like fantasy, particularly Christian fantasy, this is definitely worth a look.

Thumbs up from a 13 year old ( trout_hound )
I'm a huge fan of fantasy, and I'll say up front that I havent even read this book yet. I bought it for my 13 year old son who is an avid reader of fantasy, with Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Redwall being his staples. He read the Light of Eidon after I bought it for him for Christmas. Although he was initially put off by the lame cover (why do so many Christian fantasy books have covers that make them look like Romance novels?), he devoured the book in a few days. He demanded me find him the rest of the series (which I just ordered), and gave this recommendation: You know how J.K. Rowling writes? Well, Karen Hancock is just as good, and her books are just as hard to put down as the Harry Potter books. I'll be reading them myself, just as soon as I finish the Fires of Heaven series.

Stunningly beautiful book ( animalcrackerkat )
I picked up this book on a whim and found it to be one of the most engaging and exciting books that I've ever read. The characters are interesting and dynamic. The underlying message is one of beauty and truth.
I highly recommend this book.

A spectacular Christian Fantasy/Allegory
Karen Hancock is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. The Light of Eidon is anything but your everyday fantasy series. Filled with plot lines that keep you guessing, you will be up many late nights finishing this book.
Karen has managed to create a world and characters that are so real. From ancient cities to magical landscapes, not to mention the great illusions in the gladiators arena. You will find yourself pulling for the underdog hero, Abramm, as he goes through his ups and downs, betrayals and victories; all a part of preparing him for his destiny.
One thing to note is that though it is a christian allegory, filled with spirituality, it is not written for christians alone. I would say Hancock's writings would appeal to any fan of good fantasy. If you are one who enjoyed books like The Lord of the Rings, or The Wheel of Time series, I would venture to guess that the Legends of the Guardian King series would be a great read for you.
