Product Description
The purpose of this book is to trace the main developments in Greek Philosophy during the period which runs from he death of Alexander the Gret in 323 B.C. To the end ot the Roman Republic 31 B.C.
Excellent Scholarship ( sumrean )
This textbook is a thorough introduction to the three schools of philosophy which dominated the Hellenistic era. Although the treatments of Epicureanism and skepticism are just as comprehensive as that of the Stoics, the latter was Long's specialty and the chapter is exemplary in its depth, particularly in the treatment of the perennial problem of the "phantasia kataleptike" (unshakeable cognitive impression), the crucial point which divided the three schools' epistemology. Very well-composed prose, a must for the beginner & expert alike.
