I bought this book with a hope to find some good recipes that are good for people with Multiple Sclerosis. I am not sure that I accept what the authors are presenting, though Dr. Swank does say that this diet has helped many people. I was pleased that readers are given clear advice about what to eat and told that it takes a while to reorganize your body's chemistry, which is only realistic. While I agree that saturated fats are bad if eaten in frequent or large amounts, I have been eating fewer of them for years and it hasn't improved my symptoms. The suggestion in this book is that one should keep track of how much of these one eats and stay below a very small level to see good results. One of the things I agree with is that folks all need to eat more unsaturated fats, especially those with omega 6 desaturation. That is good for even those without MS.

 What I was looking for.
I was told about this book from a co-worker who has a family memeber that was diagnosed with MS. They stated that the diet in this book has definitely helped with their relapses. So, I purchased the book and there are a lot of good recipes in it that are not too hard to cook. Which is good for me. I would recommend this book.

This works for MS and weight loss ( utahsaint )
My father was diagnosed with MS around 90 maybe a little later. All I know is shortly after we found this book. My father was very active but grew up eating whole dairy foods and fating foods. We were healthy eaters and did not buy pre prepared food. We had decent sleep and yet he still had all the symptoms. The doctor gave him a year to five years to live and was told he could try this and it "might" work. The odd thing is that we all went on the diet lost weight, and he has been symptom free since. We don't stick to the diet anymore, but then we don't eat like we used to either. Some of the things in this book are very strict, but they are good habits to have. I know some reviewers are giving it bad marks because the food is dated or the taste are different. If something works I don't think the book should be revised. I am actually kind of glad to see it still out here and in its original form. I am going to buy it again for myself. Its a great book to have even if you just want to try to lose weight. I find it interesting all the fad diets over the years I have seen yet this one really works great. Also there are so many diets and thoughts that correspond with the conclusions that this book makes. If I had MS I would try anything and stick to it 100% if it claims to work. This is one that seems to work rather well for quite a few people. I know it has not been confirmed by Doctors or FDA to actually cure anything. When has it been known though that doctors or FDA ever said food can cure anything? There is no money in that so of course they would never admit something that simple.

Worth while ( marchmontfarm )
This book is very well written. It includes case studies and various experimental/anecdotal observations that seem to ring true. I believe controlling inflamation in MS needs to be a full time focus. Dr.Swanks program is stringent but has had a lot of success.
